How to get advice by phone
NHS Direct closed in March 2014. If you need to speak to someone about a health problem in the UK, the current service is NHS 111.
Calling NHS 111
NHS 111 is free from any phone and available 24 hours a day, every day. Trained advisers answer your call, ask about your symptoms, and either give you advice or connect you to the right service.

- 111.nhs.uk — the online symptom checker.
- Textphone users: dial 18001 then 111.
