Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use NHS Direct. This page describes the accessibility features of the site, known limitations, and how to give feedback.

How we try to make the site accessible

  • All pages use semantic HTML and clear heading hierarchies so they work with screen readers.
  • Text can be resized in your browser without loss of content or functionality.
  • Colours meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements.
  • Interactive elements can be reached and operated by keyboard.
  • Video and audio content, where included, has captions.

Changing text size and colour in your browser

Every modern browser lets you change text size (usually Ctrl and + on Windows or Cmd and + on Mac) and enable dark or high-contrast modes. See your browser’s help for details.

Feedback

If you have trouble using any part of the site, or you would like an alternative format, please let us know via our contact page. We aim to respond within five working days.
